How clean is Taiwanese coal-fired plant technology than that of the Koreans? Im asking this question in the light of the competition between the Taiwanese-backed group that plants to construct three power plants in Toledo City and the Korean Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO)-Salcon that still has to construct its promised two 100 megawatts coal-fired plants in Naga City.
it seems the oppositors to the construction of two coal-fired power plants in Naga town are outmanuevered. while they still focus on blocking the approval of the environmental compliance certificate via the consultations, the government and the power plant operators are already preparing for the groundbreaking this december 16, 2005.
in fact, president gloria macapagal-arroyo is arriving on december 16 for this activity. i gathered that a top korean official (either the president or the prime minister) will be present for the groundbreaking.
it seems the oppositors don't have a pipeline of up-to-date information on what is happening.
A group led by Edward Ligas recerntly informed me of a plan to expose a document prepared by the energy regulatory commission on alleged overcharging by the visayan electric company. this should be interesting. the group reportedly wants to wage a campaign for a refund.
in metro manila, consumers won a protracted battle for a refund against meralco. let's see if cebu consumers can win a similar victory.
